Home working could be a major threat to IT security according to the Department of Trade and Industry.
It says flexible arrangements could pose an estimated £8.5 billion a year security threat to British businesses. Up to 80 per cent of Britons admit to not taking computer security precautions when working from home.
Lapses in security can lead to fraud, bad PR, and loss of service and equipment. The DTi is urging employers to identify their security issues, assess the risks and develop a suitable security policy. Firms should then implement the relevant security controls, train staff and continue to manage and monitor security arrangements.
