Is your software lawful?

Too many local businesses cannot produce evidence that they have paid for licences for all software and other works used in their business, which are protected by intellectual property rights. The Business Software Alliance offers rewards to those who report such infringements.

The Business Software Alliance (BSA) recently announced an increase in the number of employees reporting their employers for using pirated software. There has been a 23% increase in the number of investigations into business use of illegal software over the past year, the BSA said.  We can check you are properly licensed and advise you on when a take over or asset sale or group reconstruction means that use of software requires an additional licence. We can also advise you when you take out licences to extend their scope to cover such matters by careful legal drafting and amendment.

The clock is ticking for companies who fail to manage their software efficiently. For whatever reason, employees all over the country are providing leads for our enforcement team,” warned Siobhan Carroll, Regional Manager Northern Europe at BSA. Rewards of up to £20,000 can be given to employees who report infringements.
