Take care with sensitive information

Businesses need to take more care over their information.
Firms need to be aware of the dangers around losing commercially sensitive information – or data relating to clients and customers.

One of the biggest dangers is a disgruntled employee who leaves the organisation. They could be taking all sorts of information with them. The law does give you a great deal of protection against disclosure of this information. But to really be safe, you need to build the right kind of clauses into your employment contracts. You really must do this before you disclose sensitive information to your workforce – perhaps about your business plans, new ideas, product launches or research. Obviously, you should also make sure employees who leave are not able to take data with them.

Businesses should take specialist legal advice to make sure they are fully protected, and that their employment contracts are up to date.
